    The route

    1. 1. Zaanse Schans windmills± 120 min

The Zaanse Schans is a historic neighbourhood with windmills, wooden houses and workshops from the 18th and 19th centuries. Several mills still work and can be visited inside, for example a paint mill and a sawmill. There are also a cheese farm, a clog workshop and the Molenmuseum.

    2. 2. Volendam harbour± 90 min

Volendam is a former fishing village on the Markermeer, known for its harbour, wooden houses and traditional costume. Along the dike you find fish stalls, souvenir shops and cafés. The harbour is a short, flat walk.

    3. 3. Amsterdam canal drive-by± 60 min

During the canal drive-by you see the 17th-century canal ring from the car: the Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht with their canal houses, houseboats and bridges. The chauffeur tells you about the city along the way. There is a short photo stop.

    Practical information

    Zaanse Schans windmills

Entry to the area is free; individual mills and museums charge an entrance fee (optional add-on). Paths are flat; count on 1.5 to 2 hours. It can be busy between 11:00 and 15:00.

    Volendam harbour

The dike and harbour are flat and accessible. Most shops open around 10:00. A visit of 1 to 1.5 hours is usually enough.

    Amsterdam canal drive-by

This is a drive-through part of the tour; you stay in the vehicle except for the photo stop. Traffic in the centre can be slow, which gives more time to look around.

We plan your tour to end at the pier at least 90 minutes before all-aboard time.
